Working from home has become a way of life for many, especially for those that are approaching their retirement years. Many need to supplement their income or just have the added income to do the extra things in life, whatever the reason, buying and selling can fill the financial gap for each and every one that will learn the basics of buying and selling.

• Satisfying The Demand....

There is a huge market in antiques and collectibles, many focus on collecting one certain type of collectible throughout their lives, others will collect a variety of different types of collectibles.

Many start working from home to help satisfy the ever growing demand for those collectors nationwide. For many people who start in business, they are in business because they simply love to hunt down the antiques and collectibles or they are turning their hobby of collecting into a home based business to earn extra income.

• Starting at The Entry
Level....

There are different levels one can operate at, starting at the entry level is best for those that are just starting out in working from home and getting acquainted with the antiques and collectibles industry.

The entry level just means, don't buy the high end items, you can have a lot of money tied up in one piece and be waiting for a long time to recoup your money.

On the other hand you can take the same money and invest it in some smaller collectibles and turn your money around a lot faster, pocketing the profits.

The smaller and less expensive collectible will have a faster turnaround than the more expensive higher end antiques and collectibles. This is not to say that there's not a market for the higher end items.

You can run across the higher end items, just don't pay the higher end prices, there are some great finds out there just waiting for you to snatch them up.

• Earning Your Black belt in Garage Sales....

In order to entice buyers to their garage sales, many will write their adds and put antiques and collectibles among the various other items they have for sale. This will attract the attention of the dealers and now your competition has a heads-up on the sale.

Many dealers are brazen enough to go to the sale a day before the sale is to begin, you show up early the day of the sale just to find out that the dealers came the day before and picked over all the good stuff.

When the dealer show up the day before the sale they have all kinds of excuses to offer to the proprietor of the sale, they don't make a score every time because some proprietors are just as mean as a junk yard dog and won't let them look no matter what excuse they offer.

There will be many garage sales you will go to just to learn after they have advertised antiques and collectibles , that they are dealers that are working from home and their prices reflect retail prices, don't waste your time, move on quickly to the next garage sale on your list. remember time is money!

You will meet some great people while you shopping at garage sales and they won't mind if you show up one or two hours before they actually are open as advertised.

If you show up early and they don't mind if you look, but they are not even unpacked as of yet, be helpful and help them unpack.

There is a reason you want to help unpack, not only you give the impression that you want to help, but as you unpack you looking for the goodies to buy.

When you find a collectible, you then start a pile for yourself to buy when you are finished, never ask what the price is just for one item, nine times out of ten you will be able negotiate a better price when you have several items altogether, after all you help them unpack didn't you, that alone is worth something isn't it? Word of caution, it is better to shop in pairs, husband and wife is ideal.

While one is helping to unpack, the other plays the guard dog over the pile you have created, because the other dealers will take your goodies, they are not bashful to say the least.
